A Splash of Colour

August 19, 2013

I have a lot of random material lying around my house. Newspapers, magazines, plastic, maps (leftover from holiday), old clothes etc. I keep them because ‘I might need them one day’.

Well, today was the day.

I do love a bit of collage, but wanted to do something a bit free-er, not so intricate as the last collage landscape I did. I lay all of the papers out on the floor and decided what the plan was. A bit of geometry to keep some order, but paint splashed all over for some colour.

This ‘Jigsaw’ is of those useless materials coming together to make something quite aesthetically pleasing, making order from chaos. This style is unlike anything I’ve done before, but I was on a roll, and also produced four smaller pieces, purely from painted map pieces.

I call these ‘Postcards’:

'Postcards', series of 4, collage on paper, each 19x13cm

You may also notice I’ve discovered how to watermark my pieces when posting online! This is because I’m thinking about producing prints of my work to sell… So if you’re interested, drop me a line. 🙂
